Canton Arms Pub website

The new website I designed for The Canton Arms Pub in Stockwell, South London launched recently. It’s a pub I’ve had the pleasure of frequenting many times in the past and one I rate very highly so it was a real pleasure to be able to design a website for them.

It’s based on the original design I did for The Anchor & Hope pub which is part of the same group, including The Magdalen Arms which aslo recently launched their website.

You can take a look at the website at:

Lion Hudson Website screen shots

I’ve worked on many bookshop websites before but this design for Lion Hudson is the first where the brief specified that the design had to appeal to an audience from children to adults. It presented an interesting challenge which I think we’ve surmounted.

Colorbox Plugin

Colorbox plug-in

I came across a lightbox style plugin for jQuery called Colorbox, developed by a designer/developer called Jack Moore over at Colorpowered. It looks great, there are some nice parameters that you can set, I especially like the fixed width or height, and you can also include video, external and inline content as well as other sites in an iframe.

I’ve looked at lots of different variations including Fancybox, Greybox, Thickbox as well as Lightbox itself but I think this one is the best I’ve seen.

It is also released under the MIT License. Good work Jack!

Have been on the look out for a nice jQuery image transition effect and came across this great article, 57+ Free Image Gallery, Slideshow And Lightbox Solutions over at 1stwebdesigner.com.

The two sliders I really liked were s3Slider and jFlow, I think I’m going to use the s3Slider one on a project I’m currently working on.

P.S. There’s a new Firefox add-on for Firebug called FireScope from the people over at SitePoint
P.P.S. Microsoft has unleashed Release Candidate 1 of  IE8.
